The grassroots of traditional rock n’ roll in a modernist society are the icons Mick Jagger or John Lennon that were around during the 1950s in Western society. Similar to the Beats culture and the Hippie movement, rock n’ roll style was influenced by the leading men in some of Britain’s most popular bands who knew not only how to produce a notorious guitar riff to become known by everyone, but also knew how to dress like the rock stars they were. This style is popular amongst millennials because of how street style and effortless it looks.

Paris being one of the fashion capitals of the world, and so it has a notorious style that has slowly developed through many eras of French cinema and culture.  Parisian style is defined by poised and elegant pieces that are timeless as opposed to the fast fashion that is famous in other countries. Experimentation is kept at a minimum, while minimalist style is very popular.

INTERSTELLAR: SUFJAN STEVENS

Interstellar is our new series where we introduce you to artists that are not as well-known, but that deserve all the love because of how talented they are.

Sufjan Stevens is a musician currently residing in New York City, but was born in Detroit and raised in Michigan. Geographically, his residence is an important theme in his seventh album release Carrie & Lowell. His career began in 2000 with the release of his second solo album A Sun Came pioneering the thematic symbols that would become notorious in his music, as he experimented with Middle Eastern instrumentation.  His January 2015 album Carrie & Lowell developed on his already folky and acoustic style of music.

IN CONVERSATION WITH VOGUE PHOTOGRAPHER MELODIE JENG

In the digital age, photography plays an even more influential role in the aesthetics, branding and marketing of a niche. Photography is a pipe dream for many creatives who believe they just don’t have the natural talent for it to become a career, but photography has more editing work than it may seem at first. We had a conversation with editorial, but mostly street style, photographer Melodie Jeng, who has photographed Karlie Kloss, and shot for Teen Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, Wall Street Journal and more (including the fashion forward people on the streets of NYC!) Her talent is evident in the the passion behind her work.
